when you hit advanced search it kicks you to Yahoo! search...
1. Lets you search for words in the title only or the whole page.
2. Lets you exclude words, include words, include whole phrases, exclude whole phrases..
3.allows you to filter out adult web
4. allows you to specify which domain you wish to search..i.e. .gov only, .edu only, .org only....
5. Allows you to choose one or more languages to search in...

In Conclusion, I learned that what I knew of dbases was indeed true:  They are a wealth of information and a much needed tool for the research writer.  If you understand the language of the search engine you will be successful in your endeavors.

Research Journal, Part 4: Types of Information


Practice Questions(Provide answers/sources for each of these):
1) Is a vegetarian diet healthier than a meat-based diet?
I would use official FDA websites to compare the two.  Also search online for reliable statistics to back it up.

2) Target often forces musicians to alter lyrics in order to have
their CDs sold in Target stores. Is this censorship?
Check law encyclopedias for definitions of censorship, to truly understand if this fits or not.  Also check Law review databases to see if this has been addressed already.

3) How much more can a college graduate expect to earn over
someone with a high school diploma?
dept of labor website would have this info already correlated.

4) Should educators use commercial services to combat
plagiarism? check scholarly journals as well as popular magazines to see public opinion on this topic.

5) Is the current lack of sunspot activity affecting global
warming?
Check scientific periodicals as well as databases to see if there is any peer reviewed paper on this topic.

Check the source its self and see if it has the needed info to be deemed reliable.

look on the internet and classify the different databases that are available

search law reviews as well as governmental websites and publications as they pertain to the laws governing the internet.
